A post did not go out

Find out why a post was not published, fix the cause, and send it again.

First, check which of these it is

  • It is still waiting for approval. Only approved posts publish. Look on Approvals.
  • It is approved but its time has not come. Look on Calendar for the day and time.
  • It was cancelled or skipped. Open the listing and look under Cancelled.
  • It tried and failed. It is marked Needs attention. The rest of this article is about that.

Find the reason

  1. Step 1: Open Home. A failed post is listed under What needs you with the reason beside it.
  2. Step 2: Or open Listings, tap the listing, and look under Needs attention. The reason is written in red on the post.
  3. Step 3: Match the reason to one of the messages below.

A failed post is not lost. ListingMate tries it again about every ten minutes. If it is still failing two days after its go-live time, it stops trying and waits for you.

Send it again

  1. Step 1: Fix the cause, using the message below that matches yours.
  2. Step 2: Open the listing and find the post under Needs attention.
  3. Step 3: Press Retry now. It publishes straight away if the cause is fixed.

Connection problems

Facebook is not connected

You see: Connect your Facebook Page and Instagram account on the Connections page, then this post will publish on its next run.

Why: The post was approved and came due before a Facebook Page was connected.

  1. Step 1: Follow Connect Facebook and Instagram.
  2. Step 2: The post goes out by itself within about ten minutes of connecting.

The Facebook connection has expired

You see: Your Facebook connection has expired. Reconnect on the Connections page.

Why: Facebook no longer accepts the login ListingMate holds. This happens after a password change, or from time to time on Facebook's side.

  1. Step 1: Follow Reconnect needed.
  2. Step 2: Then press Retry now on the post.

The connection needs renewing

You see: Your Facebook connection needs to be renewed. Reconnect on the Connections page.

Why: Facebook has asked for the login to be refreshed.

  1. Step 1: Follow Reconnect needed.
  2. Step 2: Then press Retry now on the post.

Permission to post was taken away

You see: ListingMate no longer has permission to post to this Facebook Page. Reconnect on the Connections page.

Why: A permission was removed in Facebook, or the person who connected is no longer an admin of the Page.

  1. Step 1: Have a current admin of the Page follow Reconnect needed, leaving every permission ticked.
  2. Step 2: Then press Retry now on the post.

Instagram is not linked

You see: Instagram isn't linked to your Facebook Page yet. Link it on the Connections page, or this post will only go to Facebook.

Why: Your Facebook Page has no Instagram account linked to it.

  1. Step 1: Follow Instagram is not linked.

Problems that fix themselves

These need nothing from you. The post goes out on a later try, usually within the hour.

Instagram was still working on the image or video

You see: Instagram is still processing this photo or video. This will retry automatically.

Why: Instagram takes time to prepare a video or a large photo, and it was not ready when ListingMate checked.

  1. Step 1: Wait. Check the post again in half an hour.

Instagram had not finished

You see: Instagram wasn't finished processing the photo or video yet. This will retry automatically.

Why: The same as above, reported a different way by Instagram.

  1. Step 1: Wait. Check the post again in half an hour.

Facebook asked us to slow down

You see: Facebook's rate limit was hit. This will retry automatically on the next run.

Why: Facebook limits how much any app can do in a short time.

  1. Step 1: Wait. It goes out on a later try.

Facebook paused the action

You see: Facebook temporarily limited this action for spam prevention. It will retry automatically; no action needed unless it keeps happening.

Why: Facebook's own spam checks held the post back for a while.

  1. Step 1: Wait a few hours.
  2. Step 2: If the same post is still held the next day, contact support.

The publishing run stopped part way

You see: The publish worker stopped partway through this post (it was claimed but never finished, most likely a timeout). It has been put back in the queue and will retry on the next run.

Why: The run that was sending this post was interrupted before it finished.

  1. Step 1: Wait. It goes out on the next try.

Problems with the post itself

The post has no photo

You see: This post has no photo attached, so there's nothing to publish. Add a photo and try again.

Why: Facebook and Instagram need an image, and this post has none.

  1. Step 1: On the post, press Change photos and choose at least one.
  2. Step 2: Press Retry now.

It stopped trying

You see: Stopped retrying after 2 days. Fix the cause, then press Retry now.

Why: The post kept failing for two days after its go-live time, so ListingMate stopped. The sentence before this one on the post is the real reason.

  1. Step 1: Fix the reason given in the first part of the message.
  2. Step 2: Press Retry now.
  3. Step 3: If the moment has passed, press Cancel post instead.

It was too old to send

You see: The publish worker stopped partway through this post and it was already well past its go-live time, so it was not sent. Nothing published. Reschedule it if you still want it to go out.

Why: The run that was sending this post was interrupted, and by the time that was noticed the post was more than a day past its go-live time. ListingMate will not send a post that stale by itself.

  1. Step 1: If you still want it, press Edit, set a new Go-live time and save.

Facebook or Instagram gave a reason we have not listed

You see: Facebook/Instagram returned an error: (Facebook's own words). This will retry automatically.

Why: The words after the colon are Facebook's own. ListingMate keeps trying.

  1. Step 1: Read Facebook's words. They often name the problem, for example a photo that is too small or a caption with a banned link.
  2. Step 2: If it is still failing the next day, contact support and paste the whole message.

Something else went wrong

You see: Couldn't publish: (a short description of the fault). This will retry automatically.

Why: The fault was not one Facebook explained. It may be at our end.

  1. Step 1: Wait an hour. It keeps trying.
  2. Step 2: If it is still failing, contact support and paste the whole message.

Posts that were stopped on purpose

The property sold before the post went out

You see: Not published: this listing has sold.

Why: ListingMate checks the listing one last time before publishing. A for sale post for a property that has sold is not sent.

  1. Step 1: Nothing to do. If the listing is not sold, correct its status where it comes from, then press Edit on the post and give it a new time.

The listing left the market

You see: Not published: this listing is no longer on the market.

Why: The listing was withdrawn or taken off the market before the post was due.

  1. Step 1: Nothing to do, unless the listing's status is wrong. Correct it where it comes from.
