Reconnect needed: your Facebook connection has stopped working

Facebook connections can expire or be withdrawn. Approved posts cannot go out until you reconnect, which takes about a minute.

ListingMate checks your Facebook connection every night. If the check fails, the Facebook and Instagram card on Connections shows Reconnect needed, Home asks you to reconnect, and we email the address set for your alerts with the subject "Your Facebook connection needs reconnecting".

Why a connection stops

The person who connected changed their Facebook password.
That person is no longer an admin of the Page.
Someone removed ListingMate from the Page's or the person's Facebook settings.
Facebook expired the login. It does this from time to time for every app.

Fix it

Step 1: Open Connections.
Step 2: On the Facebook and Instagram card, press Reconnect with Facebook.
Step 3: Log in as the person who is an admin of the Page and approve every permission.
Step 4: Press Test connection. You should see a line starting Working, posting to.

Posts that were approved while the connection was down are not lost. They go out on the next run after you reconnect. A post that has been failing for more than 2 days stops trying, and you press Retry now on it. See A post did not go out.

The messages you might see

The nightly check failed

You see: Your Facebook connection has stopped working. Reconnect on the Connections page to keep posting.

Why: Facebook no longer accepts the login ListingMate holds for your Page.

Step 1: Follow the four steps above.

ListingMate cannot see the Page any more

You see: ListingMate can no longer see your Facebook Page. Reconnect on the Connections page with the account that manages the Page.

Why: The person who connected has lost access to the Page, or the Page was removed or unpublished.

Step 1: Have a current admin of the Page follow the four steps above from their own ListingMate login.

A post failed with an expired connection

You see: Your Facebook connection has expired. Reconnect on the Connections page.

Why: The post was due while the connection was not working.

Step 1: Reconnect using the steps above.
Step 2: The post tries again by itself about every ten minutes. If it has been failing for more than 2 days it has stopped trying: open it and press Retry now.

A post failed because permission was withdrawn

You see: ListingMate no longer has permission to post to this Facebook Page. Reconnect on the Connections page.

Why: A permission was removed in Facebook after you connected.

Step 1: Reconnect using the steps above, and leave every permission ticked on Facebook's screen.

Stored details could not be read

You see: Stored Facebook details couldn't be read. Reconnect on the Connections page to fix.

Why: The saved connection is damaged. Reconnecting replaces it.
